The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Locals 13, 63 and 94 thanks Governor Gavin Newsom and the legislature for his leadership in securing a historic $1.2 billion investment in California’s ports and freight infrastructure. This investment represents a major commitment to strengthening California’s supply chain, protecting good-paying union jobs, and ensuring that our ports remain competitive in the global economy.
The ILWU is proud to have worked alongside the Governor’s Administration and legislative leaders to advance this critical investment. California’s ports are economic engines that support hundreds of thousands of jobs and sustain communities throughout the state. This funding recognizes the importance of investing in modern, efficient, and environmentally sustainable port infrastructure while supporting the hardworking men and women who keep goods moving every day.
As California continues to modernize its ports, we must ensure that public investments strengthen our workforce, create new economic opportunities, and protect the good-paying union jobs that have been the foundation of our ports for generations. The ILWU looks forward to continuing its partnership with Governor Newsom and the Legislature to ensure California’s ports remain national leaders in goods movement while putting workers and communities first.
